Discussions in the conference ranged from futuristic ideas like Warp Drive and space elevators to more recent developments of reusable spacecraft.

Hospital Kit Donation: Ronald McDonald House - Bay Area

OPOC hosted the first activity kit donation to the Ronald McDonald House in June, 2023. The activity kit allows kids to learn about the cause of the phases of the moon. Participants included Founder & West Coast Chapter Leader - Minghao Zou; Outreach/Aristic Director - Jenny Day; Media Team Member - Mihir Dived; and some students volunteer.

OPOC introduces another opportunity fro all: Planet Hunters TESS. After a simple training via Zooniverse, participants will gain be able to engage in astronomical research by identifying transits in solar light curves, which signal potential exoplanets in other solar systems.

In November of 2022, OPOC held another conference discussing an interesting yet increasingly relevant aspect of space exploration: social justice. As space technology matures, it becomes crucial to ask: how can we project our societal constructs of the extraterrestrial realm? Discussion topics ranged from policies of asteroid mining to planetary defense as we explore the future societal structre in space.

Research Opportunity

At an official OPOC meeting, we gathered a few of astronomy enthusiast and introduce a research opportunity available to all: galaxy Zoo. Galaxy Zoo is a part of the Zooniverse program, where participants will help classify real, novel galaxies online. Anyone with a device can participate - it is an excellent opportunity to easily engage in frontier astronomy research!
